Scary Sharp Color Codes
Color Chart For The Scary-Sharp System
Most every woodworking is searching for their ideal sharpening system, especially since a truly sharp chisel or plane iron makes the work so much faster and enjoyable.
I used to be a diamond plate guy, but Scary Sharp has quickly become my favorite sharpening method by a landslide. I’ll go into the why of that in a later article.
The 3M PSA Lapping Films that used with the Scary Sharp system are conveniently color coordinated by grit, but they aren’t labeled. Even though most of the companies that sell this system include a written list of the grit colors and their corresponding micron levels, it’s still not the easiest to grasp at a glance. They’re also not easy to label with a sharpie.
Because of this, I wanted to make a quick and simple chart that I can hang on my shop’s wall, next to my sharpening station, for fast reference.
So I whipped one up and thought it might be useful to more Scary Sharp users out there.
